1-3 To organise and develop Africa veterans [masters] Championships in accordance with the IAAF Rules as read with and subject to the WAVA [now WMA] Constitution;
1-4 To ratify Africa Veteran Athletic records and the best performances in each age group and to maintain statistics on other outstanding veteran athletics performances on the Continent of Africa;
1-5 To foster international friendship, understanding and cooperation within the Continent of Africa.
2 Affiliation: Affiliates of the AVAA shall be affiliates of the WAVA/WMA in Africa as defined in the WAVA/WMA Constitution as read with the IAAF Constitution.
3 General. Presently only three out of 31 WAVA/IAAF affiliated countries in Africa viz South Africa, Namibia and Mauritius are actively involved in the sport of veteran/masters athletics. As testimony thereof, they have hosted the first three AVAA Championships in 1994, 1996 and 1998, respectively. The fourth AVAA Championships were scheduled for AD2000, but no host country could be found . Consequently, after having tried in vain for four years, Mauritius have stepped in to hosting the event, once more.
4 Therefore, and in order to fulfil the ideals as set under par 1, above, a cordial invitation is extended especially to those AVAA affiliated countries not active as yet to: 4-1 Join us in Mauritius for the 4th AVAA Championships, scheduled for 18/19/20 October 2002 at the Maryse Justin Stadium, Le Reduit, Mauritius; 4-2 To step in as host for the 5th AVAA Championships, yes indeed, to come forward with a bid at the General Assembly on 18th October 2002, during the course of the Championships.
