John Meagher Australia

One of Australia’s most accomplished masters distance runners, John Meagher has excelled in road racing, cross country, track, and triathlon/Ironman for more than five decades. His achievements include World Masters Championships gold medals, World and Australian records, and national titles across multiple age groups, establishing him as one of Australia’s leading endurance athletes.

Biography
John Meagher is a Life Member of Box Hill Athletics Club and has been involved in athletics and cross country for nearly 50 years. He has represented his club, state, and country since the age of 13 at school, state, national, and international levels. He is also a long-serving educator and Head Coach of Cross Country and Athletics at Marcellin College, Victoria.

Athletic Performance
John’s career includes World Masters Championships gold medals in the Half Marathon and 8 km Cross Country (2024 and 2025), along with multiple silver and bronze medals across World Masters events. He is a World and Australian record holder in the M60 10 km and continues to compete at international level.
Community Impact
John has contributed to athletics for decades as a coach, mentor, and educator. Through his leadership at Marcellin College and Box Hill Athletics Club, he has developed athletes from beginner to international level, with some of those athletes earning U.S. scholarships. He was a Victorian nominee for Australian of the Year in 2017.
