Mattias's athletic achievements are undeniably remarkable. From becoming the first Swede to jump 8 meters in the long jump in 1991 to securing a silver medal at the Indoor World Championships in 1995, and a gold at the Indoor European Championships in 1996, his dedication to excellence in track and field is evident.

His prowess led him to be an Olympic finalist in the long jump in Atlanta in 1996, a testament to his world-class abilities. However, Mattias’s athletic journey did not end with his active career. As a Masters athlete, he has shown unparalleled dedication and tenacity, holding an astounding 11 world records and 82 Swedish records. His collection of more than 40 medals at World and European masters championships speaks volumes about his enduring commitment to the sport. A particular highlight was his triumphant return to win gold in the 400m hurdles at the World Masters Championships in Tampere in 2022 after overcoming a severe hamstring rupture just months earlier.
