Masters marathon runners will once again have the opportunity to compete against the best athletes from around the world in their respective age groups. World Masters Athletics (WMA) is pleased to announce that the Zagreb Marathon has been selected to host the 2026 World Masters Athletics Marathon Championship. With an experienced organizing team and a strong tradition in distance running, Zagreb is well prepared to deliver a memorable World Championship experience for Masters athletes. 

The 2026 World Masters Athletics Marathon Championship will be held in conjunction with the Zagreb Marathon, offering competitors a well-organized event on a course that highlights the beauty and character of Croatia’s capital city. The Zagreb Marathon is known for its welcoming atmosphere, excellent logistics, and enthusiastic local support—qualities that are especially valued by Masters athletes from around the world. 

The course passes through some of Zagreb’s most recognizable areas, blending historic streets with modern city scenery. Its balanced profile and reliable race conditions make it appealing for athletes focused on strong performances, while the lively race-day environment ensures a true championship feel. 

Zagreb itself offers much more than a race venue. Masters athletes and their companions can enjoy a city celebrated for its rich history, vibrant café culture, green spaces, museums, and outstanding cuisine.
