Kim Jeong-gi, Vice Mayor of Daegu, honors oldest athlete, Sawang Janpram

Sawang Janpram, 106 from Thailand, was recognized at a special ceremony last night with the Vice Mayor of Daegu, and WMA Leadership

At 106, Sawang Janpram keeps competing at the highest level. He is the oldest competitor at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea. Janpram didn’t start exercising until 80 and didn’t compete until 97. He trains and competes alongside his daughter, Siripan, 74. He won gold medals in the discus and javelin in the Daegu Championships.

He began exercising after watching a close friend’s health decline, determined not to become a burden on his family. His outlook, through an interpreter: “At 106, my goal is simply to enjoy life and stay fit.”
