Last weekend saw the inaugural Athletics World Cup and the stand out action clearly has to be the inclusion of 3 outstanding elite athletes, of whom are now classified as being Masters Athletes!
Nathan Douglas, Jessica Cerival and Kateema Reittie
The Athletics World Cup sew eight of the worlds top athletics nations compete in London at the Olympic Stadium. including; USA, Great Britain & Northern Ireland, Poland, China, Germany, France, Jamaica and South Africa.
Each nation competed for a $2million prize pot over two evening sessions of athletics under the lights, the ground-breaking two-day event took place across Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 July.
Featuring all eight field events alongside all track events from 100m through to the 1500m, plus 4x100m and 4x400m relays, each of the two sessions featured an even split of eight field events and nine track events.
And although it was the USA who eventually took home the ‘World Cup’ our heads and hearts are clearly focused on those Masters Athletes whom are still competing at the elite world level.
