WMA Council fills vacant Executive Positions
|
|
Per prior announcement on this website, the resignation of Acting President Monty Hacker, for health reasons, at the end of May 2009 created a void in two pivotal executive positions. Following constitutionally prescribed procedures, council after due nominations voted by majority decision for the appointment of Tom Jordan USA as Acting President for the remaining term to the end of the Stadia Championships which are scheduled to commence on July 28, 2009 in Lahti, and likewise for Friedel Schunk GER, currently Treasurer of WMA, to assume the additional responsibility of Acting Executive Vice President. Both candidates have accepted these interim appointments. |

IAU - WMA 100 K Ultra Cancellation
|
There was a recent announcement on our website reflecting the cancellation
of a 100 K Masters Road Race hosted by the IAU. The announcement included a statement of facts without providing explanatory reasoning for the action.
We have decided to amend our announcement as follows:
For some time now there was a request on the part of the WMA president and vice president for ongoing discussions between both organisations over contractual issues (registration procedures, organization and financial responsibilities). The discussions did not take place and the WMA president cancelled the agreement.
The IAU was informed, after indicating to the WMA VP Non Stadia a low entry level and apparent lack of athletes interest for a separate world championship, to cancel the championship and allow athletes to enter the other events.
The WMA still hopes to meet with the IAU and complete a mutually beneficial agreement.
Our explanation should have been furnished before, and we regret if any
athletes were inconvenienced due to this late decision. |

Message from WMA Secretary
|
As WMA Secretary, I have received a letter from WMA Executive Vice-President, and acting WMA President, Monty Hacker, notifying of his need, for health reasons, to immediately resign from both of those positions.
I would like to point out that WMA has a procedure for this situation written in its Constitution.
This procedure involves the WMA Council nominating candidates and then electing a temporary replacement for both the positions in question. And that process is now being implemented and will be done in a relatively short period of time. It is anticipated that this will have little, or no, impact on the upcoming WMA Championships in Lahti, Finland.
On behalf of the WMA Council I wish to thank Monty Hacker for his tireless work in the past 12 years on WMA Council, and we hope that he will have recovered within in a short period.
